This day began with a drive on the upper part of the Iron Creek Road which led through tunnels to the Norbeck Scenic Trail. There were stops at breathtaking vistas in the Black Elk Wilderness area and even a geocache along the way. I loved the views of Mount Rushmore through the tunnels.
The Crazy Horse Memorial, begun in 1948, is still under construction and is quite impressive. It is the world's largest sculpture and is located only 17 miles southwest of Mt. Rushmore.

The Pigtail Bridges were quite an engineering feat that allowed visitors into this part of the forest. The series of bridges wind up, or down the highway, depending on your direction, in a circling pigtail arrangement.
