Crooked Creek, AR - June 2002

While in the Mtn. Home area someone told us about Crooked Creek. After checking with the locals we learned that one could camp at the takeout point along the river in Yellville that are provided by the Game and Fish Commission as well as the Flippin Walmart . This is a small stream located near Flippin, AR that is full of smallmouth fish.

Here is one of several nice ones that Jim hooked while we floated the river. We were making good use of our new kayaks! We floated from Kelly's slab to the Hwy 62 bridge, a pleasant 3 mile float on a delightful, small serene stream. We also camped at the Pyatt access point waiting for the stream to clear up after a heavy rain but did not get to float again.

We couldn't resist stopping on the Buffalo River again while returning south. We stopped at Ozark Campground near Jasper. On June 7 we floated from Ozark to the Hasty take out point about 10 miles down the river. Jim caught 10 fish and I managed 2, but one 12" smallmouth made it all worth it!

When we got back to Hot Springs Kay and John cooked a batch of fish for a fish fry. Soon afterwards we would head west for more fishing.
