Tyler Bend, Buffalo River, AR - May 2003

If Tyler Bend campground on the Buffalo River doesn't cause you to forget the rat race then there is no hope. About 12 WINs gathered here.

A hike along the trail behind the visitor's center led to this extraordinary view of the Buffalo River. The wildflowers were magnificent the first week of May.

At the end of the trail was the Collier Homestead. Had Jan & I known we were going to make the entire hike we probably would have taken some water, but one wildflower just led to another!

Bill was our host .. he organized the trips and posted it to the WINs newsletter. Various members showed up in various locations depending on what fit their schedules.

It wouldn't be long before Earl had his own kayak!

The Buffalo River is not to be missed! It is not designated a national scenic river without plenty of reasons. It is an excellent river for beginning kayakers. Tyler Bend is one of several campgrounds along a good floating section of the river.

Herb and Nora enjoy the scenery.

Bill, Bill, Mike, Jan, Myra and Susan are ready for a float. We floated from the campground to the bridge for a short float .. didn't know it would only be 15 minutes. There was also a very nice float from Tyler Bend to Gilbert. Baker's Ford to Tyler Bend was another excellent float where we passed a heron rookery along the way. Since we caught no fish we had to eat fish in Gilbert.
