Mtn. View, Ar - April 2003

Mountain View, Arkansas is a very small town and a visit to Sylamore Creek Campground seems to be an annual event for the WINs, a single RVing group. This is my new favorite spot on the Sylamore (site 32).

Vickie and Chrissy did a little kayaking on the river which flows into the White River very nearby. Life seems to just be much slower in the Ozarks.

Several in this group like to fish and Mirror Lake certainly provided a good spot for that if a boat weren't handy to float the White River nearby. North Arkansas is noted for its trout population.

It took awhile to catch my first trout but time I had plenty of.
After a little fishing it was a short drive to Fifty Six for lunch. Also went to Gunner Pool Recreation Area for a little geocaching.

There is a plethora of other things to do in the area. One group visited the Ozark Folk Center, a state park, where demonstrations are held on just about everything related to the crafts and way of living of the people of the Ozark National Forest region.

There were broom makers, candlemakers, blacksmiths, etc. but Mike was impressed with the musical instruments.

Mountain View is perhaps best known for its music heritage. Groups gather around the square every weekend. There are also several other venues where performances are held.

Even one of our own was performing.

It seems that no visit to Mountain View would be complete without an ice cream cone on the square and a visit to the big chair as Kay, Charlie and I enjoyed.

Blanchard Springs and the caverns are great places to visit.
