Port Aransas, Tx - Nov 2003

Port Aransas, aka Port A, has become a popular tourist resort on the northern tip of Mustang Island, 30 minutes from Corpus Christi. The first settler built on the island in 1855 to raise cattle and within ten years he was joined by about 50 other settlers who ranched on the islands. That resulted in meat packeries and deep draft steamships began plying the pass. Jellyfish wash in often.

Access to the island from the northern end is by ferry from Aransas Pass. The southern end is connected to North Padre Island with a causeway. A free trolley runs a 60 minute route throughout the town. At the community park is an excellent aquatics center.

The northeast end of the city is a Nueces County Park where dry camping is available for $6 on the beach.
