From Cloud Nine, those who enjoy kayaking went east in Missouri to float the Current River.
Big Springs campground near Van Buren turned out to be an excellent choice for a place to stay. I am swept with serenity when I enter national forests and to have a scenic riverway included just makes the experience excellent. Southern Missouri is lush and green in May and the weather couldn't have been better (once the tornadoes had passed).

The Current River made for some excellent kayaking for those of us preferring calm waters. One float was from Watercress Park in town to the campground. A great float .. fished for smallmouth with no success. Another float was from Wayermeyer to Watercress Park and another from the campground to Big Tree .. lots of rootwads in the water.

Big Spring State Park, established in 1924, is 4582 acres of Ozark grandeur. Big Springs is the largest single orifice freshwater spring in the US with an average daily flow of 250 million gallons.

Myra, Jan, Herb, Nora, Susan and George take a break while hiking on Chubb Trail in our campground.

Myra, Jan and I spent a day in Van Buren which was settled in 1833.

Rosebud was having a little battery problem!
We stopped in the forest service visitor's center which is close to Watercress Park, a nice day use facility with a ramp to the river.
