Somerville Lake, Tx - Oct 2003

Left Hot Springs on September 22 and stopped at Rocky Point Campground on Wright Patman Lake just south of Texarkana, Texas. Fishing from the bank produced some excellent results.
I was headed south to experience being a winter Texas which lasted until I came home for Christmas.

A couple of days at the end of September were spent at Brushy Creek Campground on Lake of the Pines. I went kayaking and found no fish biting and realized it would have been wise to stay at Wright Patman Lake to fish. Did spend a day in Jefferson, a cute little old town filled with antique shops. Of course I visited a few shops and had some good barbeque brisket on the corner.

Made a stop at theEscapees campground near Livingston, Texas. Ran some errands before moving on.

Somerville Lake is a quiet Corps of Engineers' lake with nice camping sites overlooking the lake. Here I enjoyed unseasonably cool weather at Yegua Creek Park in the 50s and 70s or low 80s. Hiked the nature trail, fished from the kayaks and the shore, biked all the roads, and went geocaching near the dam. It is a very peaceful campground.
