Corpus Christi - Nov 2003

Spent the first night at the LePonte Park run by Nueces County. This is a park alongside the Nueces River just north of Corpus Christi at Interstate 37, exit 16, by the visitor's center. The park had just reopened after being underwater from recent heavy rains. There are no hookups, just a picnic table and spot alongside the river.

From there it was only a few miles to the El Amin Shrine Temple north of Corpus where the WINs were spending a week. It was amazing that nearly 40 rigs found plenty of room in the parking lots.

I found Corpus to be an easy town to navigate. There was plenty to do with parks, shops, restaurants, and museums.

The seawall and marina in Corpus Christi Bay were designed by Gutzon Borglum, the sculptor of Mount Rushmore. Some of the Wins enjoyed beginning the day walking and biking on the two mile stretch of walkway alongside the bay. Eight miradores, gazebo style overlooks on the bay front, provide a place for resting, getting out of the sun, or viewing the passing ships and sailboats. The design is based upon similar white on white waterfront structures in Tangier, Manzanillo and the Costa del Sol of Spain.
