Three Rivers, Tx - Oct 2003

Three Rivers is named for the confluence of the Atascosa, Nueces, and Frio Rivers. It is a commercial center for farming and ranching, uranium mining, hunting, fishing and oil refineries. The Tips Park is run by the city and here the WINs spent a week.

The campground borders the Frio River and provides a good spot for some catfishing from the bank. It was also a good place for lots of large mosquitos after the heavy rains they had in the area.

Three miles west of Three Rivers is Choke Canyon State Park and lake. The south unit provided a good place for kayaking and fishing in the brush. Arlean and Marianna shared a kayak.

Further north, the Calliham unit was a good area to see wildlife. Years ago the wildlife were fed here and they haven't forgotten. I saw one javelina and quite a few turkeys.
